One of my FAVORITE parts about social work is the variety in the field. If you get tired or burned out, you can easily change your role, agency, job, or population. :) A great way to prevent burnout and stay engaged in the wonderful field of social work!⁠

I'm probably biased but I love clinical social work! Doing therapy for all populations and diagnoses, engaging in community education and prevention work, some case management work, and really diving deep in mental health and treatment is what clinical social work is all about. Definitely an #essential social work role!⁠

Forensic Social Work! One of my personal favorite positions in the social work field, forensic social workers work within the legal system, with both defense or prosecution. Forensic social workers can be in child advocacy centers, court programs, prisons and detention centers, and victim treatment centers. They can provide rehabilitative services and assist clients through the legal system, advocate, and complete assessments and mitigation reports for court. An essential social work role! We are kicking off March, which means Social Work Month & Women's History Month! This month, I'll be highlighting amazing social workers in the field, great social work IG accounts, and all social work positions! Stay tuned for a month of social work greatness!⁠

Countertransference can come up if a therapist had a similar experience to the client & project feelings from this onto the client. It can allow for greater empathy, but make treatment difficult. Self awareness & reflection is essential in this work :)⁠

We teach parents that they model behavior to their children, but social workers forget that we can model behavior to our clients. If we show up late, aren't assertive, or are scheduling clients when we're off, we're not showing them an example of healthy relationships and boundaries. This also takes away from client's self determination. Boundaries are important, and will only be helpful. ⁠
